Eco-Village

An artists view

By constructing residence in a 'U' shape around a southern exposure, the front and top of the structure could be enclosed to provide a substantial indoor civic space. In addition to all residents having direct access to the outdoors they could also go directly to the indoor space. This civic space would be a bonus as far as heating goes because the surface area losing heat to winter cold would be about the same as would be all the interior walls of the residential semicircle, if they were left exposed. The bonus space would enable all manner of top quality facilities to be shared by residents and visitors.

Note that this drawing is from 1976 when many technical details had not been considered. The basic layout, however, remains inviting.

Details about how such a community might be structured are outlined here.
